Three is definitely the magic number for this Barnsley couple.
After years of trying for a baby without success, Marie Mellor and partner Marc Hutchinson got the shock of their lives when they discovered they were expecting triplets.
But the real shock came when doctors confirmed the trio of little medical marvels must have been conceived both naturally and through NHS-funded IVF treatment – at exactly the same time.
And the shocks kept on coming for Marie, aged 29, of Cudworth, when triplets Olly, Ava Noelle and Freya Carole arrived on October 30 – two months short of their Christmas Day due date. They were treated at Sheffield’s Jessop Hospital before being transferred to Barnsley Hospital, where they are doing well.
Marie, who has spina bifida, said: “When we saw the scan we just could not believe it – we were both speechless for a second. Then we burst out laughing, probably in shock. I remember Marc saying, ‘We’ll have to buy a bigger car now’.
“They’re my miracle babies and I am so proud that we all managed to beat the odds.”
