SOLDIERS will receive a special honour when their cavalry regiment is given the freedom of Chesterfield.
The 9th/12th Royal Lancers is to receive The Freedom of Entry to the borough in recognition of the its importance in the region and close association with Chesterfield.
A council meeting at Chesterfield Town Hall will grant the honour on Friday, at 6.30pm.
Coun Peter Barr, borough mayor, said: “This is a special honour and is given to a regiment which, over the years, has served our borough, region and country, with loyalty, bravery and a selflessness few of us can even begin to imagine.
“We are exceptionally proud of all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in this influential regiment.”
Commanding officer Lt Col William Fooks, said: “This event will not only reaffirm the strong relationship this regiment has with the borough, but also afford us the opportunity to deepen it.”
n The 9th/12th Royal Lancers are based in Germany and recruit mainly from the Midlands, including Derbyshire.
