RESIDENTS with memories of the former Markham Colliery site near Chesterfield are being invited to play a central part in a new arts project.
People living nearby are being asked take photos or personal items relating to the industrial, domestic or mining heritage of the area and share their stories at a series of drop-ins.
The Derbyshire County Council project will culminate in a light and sound show later in the year.
And information gathered will be used to create a lasting Markham Vale mining memorial.
The meetings all take place next week - on Monday from 11am to 5pm at the Arkwright Centre, Chesterfield, on Tuesday from 10.30am to 5pm at the Assembly Rooms, Bolsover, on Wednesday from 10am to 4pm at Markham Vale Environment Centre in Chesterfield, on Thursday from 10am to 4pm at The Stables, Staveley and on Friday from midday to 2pm at Staveley Miners Welfare club.
