Mel makes most of being brought to book by Owls fans
FOOTBALL legend Mel Sterland came home to roost when he signed copies of his autobiography at the Owls superstore at the ground in Hillsborough.
The former Sheffield Wednesday fullback is on tour to promote the story of his life, Boozing, Betting and Brawling.
At the store he entertained diehard fans, former Owls supporters' club secretary Rita Nettleship and Jill Goodison, with tales of his glory days.
Mel, aged 46, who lives in Handsworth, played for the Owls in the 1980s before transferring to Glasgow Rangers and then Leeds.
The book reveals how he turned to drinking and gambling when his career was cut short by an ankle injury. He was also charged and cleared of handling stolen goods following a Post Office raid.
