PROTESTERS battling to save three threatened school crossing patrols are meeting Barnsley Council’s deputy leader Jim Andrews tonight.

Parents and other residents of Hoyland Common, who yesterday presented a 700-signature petition against the move to Coun Andrews at the Town Hall, will gather for the discussion at the scout hall on Tinker Lane, Hoyland Common, at 6pm.

Barnsley Council has announced lollipop ladies at Hoyland Road and Sheffield Road at Hoyland Common, and a patrol on Doncaster Road, face the axe to save £50,000 as part of budget cuts.

The council will make a decision on the patrols at its meeting on March 10.
