Meeting on speed rail link

FURTHER pressure has been put on the Government to upgrade rail links to South Yorkshire.

Last week, Network Rail bosses urged ministers to make electrification of the Midland Main Line from London to Sheffield the next big engineering project.

Now a meeting has taken place between Doncaster Central MP and Yorkshire minister Rosie Winterton, Barnsley East MP Jeff Ennis and Sir David Rowlands, who chairs the body advising the Government on plans for new high speed lines.

The MPs were pressing the case for Yorkshire to have a branch on the network after initial proposals revealed a route from London to Glasgow and Edinburgh via the West Midlands and North West.
