A Sheffield firm has signed up as a sponsor for an inspirational organ donation event being held in the city.
B. Braun Medical, based at Thorncliffe Park, Chapeltown, is the latest supporter for the Westfield Health British Transplant Games in August.
Hundreds of inspirational athletes and spectators will descend on the city for what is shaping up to be the biggest in a decade.
The Star is backing the Gift of Life campaign to sign up 12,000 more local organ donors before the games get underway.
Hans Hux, chief cxecutive of B. Braun Medical, UK arm of the global healthcare company B. Braun, said: “We are proud to be backing such a worthwhile event to showcase the value of organ donation, which saves so many lives.”
“It is critical when we are faced with an increasing population to get more names on the organ donor register.
“An important part of our company’s ethos is to support initiatives which raise awareness of important health issues, and, for this reason, we are delighted to be part of such an inspiring event.”
Games organisers have announced record numbers of competitors and supporters for this year’s event.
And more than 6,000 people have already signed up to be organ donors thanks to the Gift of Life drive.
Graham Moore, chairman of the games’ local organising committee and headline sponsor Westfield Health , said: “We’ve had a great response from local businesses in supporting the event and this latest boost will certainly help us to spread the message of organ donation far and wide.”
