James Machon has a message for his opponents as he looks to take the next step in what has been an incredible 12 months.
“I have been working on a few new tricks for the Olympics,” said the 23-year-old.
“The Olympics for me is about raising your level of performance to a new level.
“I’ve been working on it for about four years now and I’m ready for Sochi. I’m going to take it step by step, focus on making the final first and if I do that I’m going to go for it!”
Nearly two years on from surgery the surgeon who saved Machon’s life and career says, despite the nature of his injury and his infection, he is not surprised with how Machon has bounced back to be in with a chance of bringing a medal back to Sheffield from the Winter Games.
Sutton said: “I’m not surprised at all, he is very motivated, very driven to succeed and he was the same when he overcame his injury. He is a great character and hopefully he can come back from Russia wearing a medal.”
