Meadowhall 20th birthday bash is set in stone - VIDEO
STONEFACE sculptor Andy Vickers is facing up to his biggest challenge - as he completes the Many Faces Of Meadowhall.
He is chiselling 20 faces into stone, in view of shoppers near the famed brass statues, to mark the mall's landmark 20th Birthday Bash tomorrow.
And he's had just a week to do it.
Andy, of Dungworth, says it's a celebration of people at the mall, which boasts over 25 million visitors a year, with 280 stores and 12,000 free parking spaces.
He said: "I've been inspired by people coming up for a look. Shoppers and staff might see themselves in the stone."
Meadowhall's celebrations on Saturday - see schedule below - feature BBC kids TV favourites The Tweenies, X Factor finalists Lloyd Daniels and Jamie Archer, Britain's Got Talent finalists 2 Grand, Hallam FM's Ollie & Becky Hayes and a pass the parcel competition to win a Disney party.
Fancie Roller Girls will give away cupcakes, explained Meadowhall Marketing Director Richard Pinfold.
In addition there will be a jazz band, stilt walkers, face painters and appearances by Miss Ballooniverse, Ozzy Owl, Appy Feet, Bearemy and Mouse.
Richard said: "We've got something from everybody as part of our birthday events on Saturday - from the Tweenies to X-Factor stars.
"It's about celebrating the past but also looking to the future. We have lots of other things happening right through until Christmas and beyond. As for Meadowhall itself, it will continue to evolve and we have exciting plans ahead."
