YOUNGSTERS are enjoying all sorts of sports - thanks to a brand new multi-use games area created in a Chesterfield park.
The £60,000 facilities in Highfield Park at Newbold include a tarmac surface with football and basketball nets, new cricket stumps and target panels, plus a sheltered meeting point.
The site was opened officially by the town’s Mayor, Coun Keith Morgan, with young people from Highfield Hall Junior School ready to try everything out.
Coun David Stone, lead member for safe, healthy and active communities, said: “It’s terrific to see this site being developed into something that young people can actually use and benefit from.
“Our thanks go to the Big Lottery for helping to fund the project and to everyone involved in delivering this new facility for the community.”
The project was funded from the Big Lottery, the Waste Recycling Environmental grant, and the Dunston Moor and St Helen’s Community Forum.
