Masked gang in A1 lorry hijack
A LORRY driver was put through a terrifying ordeal at the hands of a masked gang as he rested at a Doncaster service station.
The 30-year-old man and his vehicle were hijacked after the three thugs burst into his lorry after smashing their way in through one of the windows.
The trucker, who is from West Yorkshire, had been driving his white DAF lorry carrying an orange container on the A1 North on Thursday October 7.
At around 6.30pm he stopped for a rest on wasteland at the back of the White Rose service station, on the A1 North at Skellow, and fell asleep in the cab.
But at around 2am the following morning he was awoken by three masked men forcing entry into the cab of his lorry by breaking the window.
The driver was then forced to go along with them as the lorry was driven north up the A1 onto Grovehall Lane, close to junction 33 of the M62 motorway.
A quantity of designer Barbour jackets were stolen from the lorry and, it is believed, transferred onto two waiting vehicles.
The driver of the lorry was not injured but was left shaken by his ordeal.
Today South Yorkshire Police appealed for information about the robbery.
Det Con Darren Booth said: "The driver of the lorry was understandably very distressed by this incident.
"We are keen to hear from anybody who may have seen the lorry or who may have information about where the stolen jackets are, which could help us to identify the people responsible."
Police are urging anyone with information to call 0114 220 2020 quoting incident 125 of the October 7 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
