FAMILIES are being invited to join in with some circus-themed fun – while supporting local businesses – at a series of markets being held in north east Derbyshire in June.
Eckington and Killamarsh will each host an event as part of a North East Derbyshire District Council project to boost markets in the district.
Circus skills, street entertainment, balloon modelling, a petting zoo with exotic animals, music and a range of stalls are among the attractions on offer at the markets.
The event in Killamarsh is on Thursday, June 7, from 9am to 2pm at Killamarsh Sports Centre car park, while the Eckington Market is the following day, from 9am to 2pm, on Market Street.
Coun Pat Kerry, council member with responsibility for the economy, said: “Once again we’re looking forward to some great circus-themed entertainment and family activities, which always pull in the crowds.
“This project is all about helping our markets to thrive – bringing in more visitors and boosting the local economy.”
The events are part of the council’s Marketing the Markets project – launched thanks to £170,000 worth of funding from the Bolsover and North East Derbyshire Leader Approach, and with support from Eckington Parish Council.
