MARKETS across Barnsley will be closed on Tuesday, June 5, after traders voted in favour of taking the day off to join in the celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The markets will be open as normal the day after.
Anne Untisz, Barnsley town centre services manager, said market traders in the town centre, Goldthorpe, Hoyland and Wombwell were all balloted.
She said: “The ballot was undertaken with the full support of the National Market Traders Federation to enable businesses to make the decision based on their individual choice.
“The result was an outstanding ‘no’ to opening, with the vast majority of traders wishing to close for the day.
“As a result there will be no market in Barnsley town centre, Goldthorpe, Hoyland or Wombwell on June 5.”
