TRADERS at Mexborough Market have found time to raise money for the air ambulance as well train in basic life support.

Mayor Peter Davies congratulated the traders - who have raised £3,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance - when the cheque was handed over.

The money has been collected over the past year through various events, including the Santa’s Grotto and nativity scene over Christmas.

Market traders’ treasurer Phil Toon, who is also a Community First Responder, is trained to use the market’s own defibrillator, and traders Ralph Lowery, Sandra Deans, Wendy Bailey and John Hickman also hold basic life support certificates.

“The traders have done a fantastic job in raising money for this vital lifesaving service,” said Mr Davies. “Mexborough is a friendly market and I would recommend everyone comes and takes a look around at the wide selection of quality goods and produce on sale.”
