RESIDENTS are invited to celebrate the harvest in a South Yorkshire town.

St Mary’s Church, Wombwell, is holding a Harvest Festival service on Sunday.

People are invited to bring in shoeboxes with items such as tinned food, dried goods, condiments and toiletries, which will be donated to the Sheffield Cathedral Archer Project for distribution among the homeless and vulnerable.

The Reverend Martijn Mugge, who will lead the 10am service, said: “At a time when everyone is feeling the squeeze, it is still good to be thankful and generous to those less fortunate.”
