Marathon effort for Myeloma

Have your say

As I watched the London marathon, I was prompted to write to thank everyone involved in the fantastic Plusnet Yorkshire Half Marathon, which I ran in aid of Myeloma UK.

My best friend and well-known local businesswoman Jaqui Copley was diagnosed with this cancer of the plasma cells last year and her close friends immediately decided to do whatever we could for her.

I had never run that distance before on what is known as one of the most challenging half-marathon routes. The atmosphere was electric and I was humbled to be a part of it; thanks to the support of the crowd shouting my name, I didn’t walk at all. It was so emotional to have my daughter return from Manchester to cheer me on and we were so proud of Jaqui- who watched it all from the Prince of Wales on Ecclesall Road.

We want to thank all who shook the Myeloma tins outside the pub and the generous hearted people who filled them with £60. And of course my sponsors who helped me raise £2300 personally and my son, husband and friends who ran with me to raise a total of £5500 towards Jaqui’s target of £25000 for Myeloma UK and the Hallamshire Hospital’s haematology unit.
