His leg was shattered in more than a dozen places and he has only one kidney.

But does that deter Doncaster life coach John Senior from living an active life?

Not at all, as he will prove this summer when he embarks on a punishing schedule of 10 half marathons on 10 consecutive days.

The races will start and finish at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and the last takes place on Sunday, July 24 - the anniversary of the day he had his left kidney removed in 1994.

Sponsorship from the runs is John’s way of giving something back to the renal services unit at the Doncaster Royal Infirmary as a tribute for all the care he has received over the years. John, who lives in Scawsby, has since set up a life coaching programme to help all kinds of people to achieve their goals, whatever they may be and irrespective of their circumstances.

He founded Senior Development following a successful spell working in America with various well-known names from the professional sports worlds, including world champion boxers, darts players, and UK strongmen.

John, aged 42, said: “In 1984, at the age of 15, I broke my right leg in 14 places and was told I would not be able to take part in any sport activity again.

“It was the staff at DRI that put me back together and gave me the encouragement to keep believing I would not only walk correctly but give me the confidence to run, train in kung fu, and become a boxing coach.

“I plan to run 10 half marathons in 10 days, starting and ending each run at DRI. All the money raised will go to DRI.” He added: “In addition to sponsorship raised by my runs, I have just released a book called Personal Success - the Greatest Secret. Half the book sales will go to the DRI. I am also in the process of recording a motivational CD and 50 per cent of its sales will also go to the DRI.”

His book and audio programme aim to help people to make positive, lasting changes in all areas of their life, including weight loss, stopping smoking, fears and phobias, and stress in public speaking.

John has consulted and worked with organisations both large and small, including BT Local Business, Corus, Sheffield and Rotherham and Barnsley Chambers of Commerce, the NHS, and GK Ford Group.
