Manor schools in harmony at Cathedral concert

YOUNGSTERS from two schools on the Manor teamed up with musicians from Sheffield University to stage a show at the Cathedral.

Fifty pupils from the Pipworth and Manor Lodge primaries sang their hearts out with backing from musicians.

The audience was treated to a range of popular music, from High School Musical highlights to greatest hits by Paul Simon and Abba.

Second year music student Sarah Graves worked with the Manor Lodge youngsters, while her friend Mari Richmond coached the Pipworth children.

The idea for the show came from the Rev Abi Smetham, curate from the Manor parish, who has been helping both school choirs.

"I thought it would be great to bring them together to perform in a grand concert at Sheffield Cathedral," she said.

"The children showed great dedication in learning all the songs and it was a treat for them to be able to get together and perform with other young people from their local area."
