A HOME for retired people in Sheffield has been named the region’s best sheltered housing scheme.

Loxley Court, Limbrick Close, Hillsborough, was chosen from 11 properties owned by Oldham-based housing provider Guinness Northern Counties, which recognised the hard work of Loxley Court’s managers Janet Shipman and Eric Pickersgill.

The scheme provides accommodation and round-the-clock support for 28 residents aged over 60.

Paintings by residents are hung on the walls of the complex, while regular activities for them include bingo, flower arranging and days out.

Residents can also borrow books from the in-house library.

Janet, who lives on site, said she works closely with Eric as a team.

“We both feel this has helped to build a community here,” she said.

“The best part of my job is the satisfaction of being able to help people to live as independently as possible and provide them with a happy, comfortable environment to live in.”
