Man quizzed after fatal stabbing

A MURDER probe is under way in South Yorkshire after a man was found stabbed to death.

Police were called in after paramedics answered a 999 call to New Street, Darfield, Barnsley, and discovered the extent of the victim's injuries.

Ian Stewart, aged 26, was rushed to Barnsley Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

A post mortem examination revealed that he died from a single stab wound to the chest.

Mr Stewart, of New Street, Darfield, is thought to have been involved in 'an altercation' with another man before he suffered the fatal wound on Saturday, about 10pm.

A 31-year-old, also from Darfield, was arrested on suspicion of murder and was today being questioned by detectives.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We are investigating the circumstances.

"At this stage it would appear there was an altercation between two men and as a result the 26-year-old man sustained serious injuries.

"He was conveyed to Barnsley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead."
