A MAN smashed his way into his sister-in-law’s house using a shovel to steal an Xbox computer console.
Sean Byrnes, aged 22, had fallen out with his girlfriend and was living in the garden shed of a house belonging to her sister.
When the homeowner and her husband went out on February 12 last year, Byrnes used a shovel to smash his way in through a window.
He found the Xbox and took it to a cash-for-goods shop where he sold it for £30, which he spent on alcohol.
Prosecutor Carl Fitch told Sheffield Crown Court that when arrested Byrnes, of Stone Close Avenue, Hexthorpe, Doncaster, told police he had only done it to annoy his girlfriend.
Byrnes admitted burglary and was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
