A DAD spat in his partner’s face after a row over who would keep their Freeview TV receiver following separation.
Liam Hodkin and Laura Drew’s 18-month relationship ended in February, when she was pregnant, but they reconciled following the birth of their daughter.
Chesterfield magistrates heard a row erupted while they were in bed and he threatened to call social services and make up accusations about her.
“She asked him to leave and, as he did so, he turned around, grabbed her arm and called her names. He then spat in her face and left,” said Sarah Haslam, prosecuting.
Hodkin, aged 21, of Ash Crescent, Eckington, admitted the May 25 assault. He had a similar conviction for assaulting a previous partner.
Magistrates adjourned sentence until June 27 for probation service reports and granted bail on condition he did not contact Ms Drew or go to her home in Brimington.
“He says there is far more to this. They originally split up by mutual consent and there had been violence on both sides, with him receiving quite serious injuries from her which he did not report to police,” said Phil Bloore, defending.
“She punched him in the face, causing a tooth to cut his cheek.
“He lost his temper and spat some blood in her face.”
