Man punched attacker who tried to rob him in street

A man who was held up in the street by a youth armed with a penknife punched his assailant to foil an attempted street robbery.

The 52-year-old victim was walking to his car when he was approached by a youth asking if he was carrying a wallet or phone.

Police said the victim punched the offender, who fled from Chestnut Close, Chesterfield, through a housing estate towards the Horns Bridge roundabout.

The offender was white, around 16 years old, 5ft 3ins, wearing a red jumper with a white stripe down the left-hand side and dark jogging bottoms.
