Man lying in road is run over and killed

POLICE are seeking witnesses after a 30-year-old man lying in a South Yorkshire road was run over and killed.

The man, from the Scawthorpe area of Doncaster, died at the scene at 11.25pm on Friday after suffering fatal head injuries.

Police say the man, who has not been named, was struck by a green Vauxhall Astra, driven by a 43-year-old from the Woodlands area of Doncaster, on the A368 York Road, near the junction with Stanley Road, Doncaster.

A police spokesman said the vehicle was heading out of town when it hit the man who was “believed to have been lying in the carriageway”.

Witnesses who may have seen him or the car before the accident should contact them on 0114 2202020, quoting incident number 1397.
