A MAN who died after he was driven over while he lay in a road in South Yorkshire has been named by police.
Peter Topping, aged 56, from Goldthorpe, Barnsley, died from injuries he suffered in Co-operative Street, Goldthorpe, at around 8.25pm last Thursday.
The driver failed to stop after driving over Mr Topping, and was seen turning right into Doncaster Road.
South Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
A spokeswoman said: “Officers are renewing their appeal for anyone to contact police who may have witnessed Mr Topping lying on the ground prior to the incident, or anyone who witnessed the impact, or anybody who has seen someone acting suspiciously around their own vehicle since 8.25pm yesterday.”
Anyone who believes they were the driver or a passenger in a vehicle that struck an object on Co-operative Street is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 779 of December 29 2011. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
