A SOUTH Yorkshire man has been jailed after driving at speeds of up to 75mph in a stolen car while being chased by police.

Michael Johnson-Cutts, aged 25, of Mount Pleasant Road, Masbrough, was sentenced to 20 months for aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Johnson-Cutts took a Land Rover Defender from Spencer Street, Belper, and was driving it along Main Road, Stretton, Derbyshire, on December 22 when officers attempted to pull him over.

He drove off before stopping in a car park at Mill Street, Clowne, about 20 minutes later. During the pursuit, he reached 75mph through residential areas and mounted a grass verge, Derby Crown Court heard.

He asked Recorder Simon Ward to take two cases of handling stolen vehicles into account when passing sentence.
