A PEDESTRIAN was injured after he was struck by a car as he crossed a busy road in Sheffield city centre.

The man was crossing Haymarket at about 10am yesterday, when he collided with a grey BMW saloon.

Off duty security guard David Williamson, aged 39, of Parson Cross, who saw the collision, said: “I came out of Wilkinson and saw the man lying on the ground.

“He had a large gash on his head and there also appeared to be a cut on his hand.”

Paramedics and an ambulance were quickly on the scene.

The pensioner was taken to the Northern General Hospital for further treatment.
