Man injured in house fire in Rotherham

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a flat fire in Rotherham.

The suspect - a man in his 50s - was found in the house on Wagon Road, Greasbrough, when emergency services arrived.

He was taken to hospital with burns to his upper body.

A neighbour also received treatment for smoke inhalation.

The blaze in the ground floor flat was reported at 8.40pm on Saturday.

It caused serious damage to a bedroom.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called at around 8.40pm on Saturday, July 4 following reports of a fire at a property in Wagon Road, Rotherham.

“A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and bailed pending further inquiries. He is currently in hospital receiving treatment for burns.

“A neighbouring resident also received treatment for smoke inhalation.”
