A man is in hospital with a head injury following an ‘altercation.’
A police spokesman said it was believed there had been an ‘altercation’ between two men at a property on Spotswood Close, Gleadless Valley, at around 10pm on Thursday.
The man remained under the care of medics at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital last night.
A nearby resident said they had heard ‘a lot of shouting and argy-bargy’ at around 10.15pm that evening.
They called the police to come and attend.
The resident said: “I heard it at about 10.15pm that night.
“There was a lot of shouting and argy-bargy.
“I couldn’t see it, but then all hell seemed to break loose.
“A man was shouting - you could tell that somebody was being hit.
“I haven’t seen anything but one of the policemen at the scene told me there was quite a lot of blood.
“I telephoned 101 when it all kicked off at the time.”
The scene was taped off by police and officers remained there yesterday morning.
Two police cars were also stationed on the road.
A police spokesman said: “It looks like there has been a bit of an altercation between two men in one of the homes on that road.
“One injured man is now in hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
“Officers were still at the scene as a matter of due course.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
