FIRE crews led a man to safety from his smoke-filled flat after a blaze broke out in his kitchen.
The man, in his 60s, was cooking when fire started in his home in the Park View Lodge sheltered housing accommodation on Leader Road, Hillsborough, Sheffield.
The flames were already out when firefighters arrived but the flat was filled with smoke.
THIEVES believed to be driving a grey van stole a motorbike from Carrfield Road, Heeley. Officers are also trying to trace the offender responsible for taking a car from Myrtle Road, Lowfield, after stealing the keys from the hall of the house outside which it was parked.
Three men have been questioned, meanwhile, after a car was stolen from Heeley Bank Road, Lowfield, Sheffield.
MORE children under five are being protected from serious illnesses thanks to a childhood vaccination programme in Derbyshire. Annual figures released by NHS Derbyshire show nine out of every 10 children living in Derbyshire are now vaccinated against MMR by the age of two. The number of children having their preschool boosters, which protects against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio and MMR, is also at a record high - 93 per cent by the age of five.
The Campaign for National Parks is urging tough tactics on off-roading in the Peak District. Anne Robinson, chair of the Campaign for National Parks and a Peak District resident, will tell a rally today: “The time has come to get tough. We are pressing for a pro-active approach - this could be done by closing routes to motorised vehicles or issuing permits for limited access.”
A RANGE Rover found burning on Rowell Lane, Loxley, Sheffield, had been set on fire. The flames were extinguished by firefighters from Rivelin. A Vauxhall Vectra was destroyed in an arson attack on Hay Green Lane, Birdwell, Barnsley and an Audi A3 was found burning on Dovecliffe Road, Wombwell, Barnsley.
A SPEED camera went up in flames in an arson attack in Barnsley. Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 12.30am yesterday.
