POLICE investigating the shooting of a dad who was gunned down on his doorstep have charged a man with attempted murder.

Nathan Wingfield, aged 22, of no fixed address, was charged with the attempted murder of Tyrone Woodhead who was shot at his home in Doncaster Road, Wath Upon Dearne, on September 20.

Wingfield has appeared at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court charged with robbery, aggravated burglary and attempted murder.

He was remanded in custody and his case will be transferred to Sheffield Crown Court.

Police said the charges relate to three separate incidents – the attempted murder of Mr Woodhead on September 20, a robbery in Wath on the same day, and an aggravated burglary in Bentley, Doncaster, on September 12.

A spokesman said they were continuing to search for another man in connection with the shooting and believe the incident was specifically targeted.

Dad-of-one Mr Woodhead, aged 42, is still in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
