A man is being hunted over the attempted theft of a pet dog from a garden in Sheffield.

He tried to steal a miniature poodle from a garden on School Avenue, Halfway, but was caught by the owner and dropped the dog.

South Yorkshire Police said he then pushed the owner - a 61-year-old woman - to the floor and kicked her before fleeing empty-handed.

The crook was white, slim and had dark blond hair.

He wearing a black zip up jacket and a black hat.

PC Andrew Thompson, who is investigating the attempted theft, said: “We have released this E-fit image to appeal for anyone who may be able to help us identify the offender and achieve justice for the victim, who has been left shaken from the incident.

"This was an act of violence towards a vulnerable person and anyone who may be able to assist us with our enquiries is asked to please contact us.”

Anyone with information on the incident, which happened at 8am on Wednesday, April 12, should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
