A man has been found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl as she walked home after babysitting for a family friend in Sheffield.
Radu Rostas, aged 30, dragged the teenager to a grassy area off Broad Street, Wybourn, Sheffield, and raped her.
Afterwards the girl rang the police, who searched the area and arrested Rostas on suspicion of rape.
The attack took place in October 2013.
Today the detective leading the investigation praised the teen for facing her attacker in court during a four-day trial at Sheffield Crown Court.
Detective Constable Nicky Cooper said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to commend the victim for the courage she has shown throughout our investigation and for her incredible bravery in taking the stand to tell her story.
“Speaking in a courtroom is a daunting experience for anyone, but for someone so young who has been through such a traumatic event, it must be even scarier still.”
“The judge also commended the victim for her tremendous bravery.”
Rostas will be sentenced next month.
