A MAN has died after he was injured at work when he was hit by a moving piece of metal at a Sheffield factory.
The 47-year-old, who has not yet been named, was working at ATI Allvac Limited on President Way, off Carlisle Street, Attercliffe, when tragedy struck on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the man was ‘struck by moving metal’ in the factory when he was seriously injured.
Paramedics battled to save him at the scene and he was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident and arrived at the factory to find paramedics working on the man.
An investigation into the death has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating an incident, which occurred at around 1.50pm on Wednesday at ATI Allvac Ltd, Carlisle Street.
“A 47- year-old man was seriously injured whilst moving metal items within the factory premises.
“The injured man was conveyed to hospital for treatment but sadly, he died a short time later.
“The Health and Safety Executive is aware and a joint investigation is under way with South Yorkshire Police.”
ATI Allvac, which refused to comment on the accident, manufactures speciality metals, including titanium, nickel and cobalt-based alloys for markets including the aerospace industry.
