Man charged with running over victim during Sheffield street brawl

A 30-year-old has appeared in court charged with running over a man during a mass brawl on a Sheffield street.

Liam Sharp, from Woodthorpe, was remanded in custody after appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court charged with a Section 18 assault - wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm - and dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on August 16.

Police were called at around 7pm on Sunday 17 July to reports of a large disturbance in Staniforth Road, Darnall.

A man was discovered with serious injuries in the road - he was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A 34-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Chief Inspector Richard Lambert from Sheffield said further disorder that had occurred in Darnall on Monday night was ‘potentially linked’ to what happened on Sunday.

He said: “I want to stress that this will absolutely not be tolerated. We are working hard to identify those individuals involved and we will take whatever measures we can to ensure the safety of our residents and businesses.”
