POLICE have charged a man with murder after a dad was shot dead.

Martin Fieldhouse, aged 27, of Derwent Crescent, Athersley South, appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of killing 32-year-old Lee William Gray last Saturday. He was remanded in custody until next week when he will appear at Sheffield Crown Court.

A post mortem examination has revealed Mr Gray, of Greenwood Avenue, Worsbrough, died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Mr Gray, a father-of-four, was originally from Athersley North and went to Edward Sheerien School.

His brother Matt has paid tribute to him, describing him as “one of a kind”.

“Lee, my big brother, I can’t believe you have been taken from me, I don’t know what to do, there is such a hole in my life. I love and miss you so much and always will,” he said. “You will always be in my heart. I love you.”

Two others arrested, a man and woman in their 30s, were released without charge.
