A man has been arrested over the theft of a van with a dog in the back, which was later involved in a collision with a police car and bus.

Officers were alerted to the theft of Toyota Hiace van from the car park at Abbeydale Park Sport Club, Abbeydale Road South, at 11.25am on Monday.

The van, which had the owner’s French Bulldog inside, was seen driving away from the car park.

It was then involved in a crash with a bus and a police car on Stradbroke Road, Woodhouse, at 1.30pm that day.

Two police officers and a number of bus passengers were injured and taken to hospital. They have all since been released.

The dog was later traced.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the theft of a vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and assaulting a police officer.
