A MAN suspected of attacking the Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The suspect, a 21-year-old man from Cheltenham, was arrested by officers from Gloucestershire Police shortly before 1pm today.

South Yorkshire Police is leading the investigation into the incident, which happened at Hillsborough stadium during the Owls’ match against Leeds United.

He was located in Cheltenham when he was arrested, and is now being brought to South Yorkshire for questioning.
