A man has been arrested for murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in a South Yorkshire house this morning.

The woman, who is yet to be formally identified, was found dead in a property on West Street, Goldthorpe, near Barnsley today.

Officers have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody at this time.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Steve Ashmore has launched an appeal for information.

He said: “There has been an arrest in connection with the murder.

"However, we still need the public’s help in piecing together the circumstances. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything from around 6am this morning in the area of the West Street, or may have seen a blue Ford Fiesta, being driven around the Goldthorpe area since 6am this morning should call us.”
