A man has been arrested for drink driving after an 83-year-old woman was injured in a collision.

The elderly pedestrian was involved in the collision at about 10.30am on Wednesday, April 20.

She was on St Mary’s Road, Barnsley, at the junction with Market Street, outside Clarks chemist, when the incident happened.

It was reported that the driver of the Golf failed to stop at the scene.

A 68-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop/report a collision, and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

The woman is currently being treated in hospital for her injuries, which police say are not curently thought to be life-threatening.
