Hepworth was driving the Volvo S60 car when he hit the two couple around 11pm on the night of December 26 on Sutton Road, Askern.

He also pleaded guilty to three further offences – failing to stop after a road traffic accident, driving without a licence and using a vehicle without insurance.

Hepworth was in tears as he gave his guilty pleas.

Friends and relatives of the victims watched the case unfold from the public gallery.

The case was adjourned until March 11 when Hepworth will be sentenced.

His Honour Judge Paul Watson QC warned him: “There will be a very long sentence when you return.”
