Police have made an arrest over the attack on South Yorkshire dad-of-two Dean Armitage - left fighting for life after tackling a man suspected of trying to steal his car.
Officers have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and burglary.
Haulage company boss Mr Armitage, aged 49, is still in hospital in a life-threatening condition.
He is thought to have been woken by someone breaking into his Land Rover outside his home in Skiers View Road, Hoyland, Barnsley, at 3.15am on Sunday, July 21.
Neighbours say the suspect had climbed into Mr Armitage’s home and stolen the keys from the kitchen.
Mr Armitage was attacked when he went out to confront the man and was left on his driveway with serious head injuries.
Retired neighbour Sylvia Whyke said: “Dean is a really hard-working man.
“We don’t see much of him as he works so hard but when we do he is lovely and friendly.”
