ST Luke’s Hospice will be lighting up all of Sheffield this Christmas… thanks to a new partnership with Sheffield International Venues.
The annual St Luke’s Festival of Light is one of the city’s best loved Christmas traditions, with the hospice grounds transformed by thousands of lights all dedicated in memory of loved ones.
But this year the hospice is forming a special partnership with SIV that will see the celebrations extending throughout Ponds Forge, Hillsborough Leisure Centre, iceSheffield and Sheffield City Hall too.
The people of Sheffield will be asked to hold private Festival of Light events in their own homes and workplaces as well, taking the event into every corner of the city.
Steve Brailey, chief executive of SIV, said: “We are delighted to be working in this unique partnership.
“By hosting events at a number of our venues across Sheffield, we hope to get more people involved in the celebrations and encourage them to raise even more money for this fantastic cause, which we know has touched so many people in the region.”
An official Christmas tree light switch-on will take place at Ponds Forge on November 30, and at Sheffield City Hall the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing in support of the hospice on December 8.
Other events include a Late Night Light Skate at iceSheffield on December 1 and Santa’s Breakfast at Hillsborough Leisure Centre on Christmas Eve.
“The Festival of Light is firmly established as a real Sheffield Christmas tradition,” said St Luke’s spokeswoman Hannah Jordan. “Now, thanks to the support of SIV, more people than ever before will be able to join the celebrations and make this a Christmas to remember for all St Luke’s patients and their families.”
