M1 drivers to expect delays while maintenance work is carried out in South Yorkshire

The M1 is to be closed overnight at junction 34 while maintenance work is carried out on the Tinsley Viaduct.

Work to refurbish a bridge expansion joint is due to begin on February 16 and is expected to be completed by March 14.

A Highways Agency spokesman said: “The Highways Agency will shortly begin maintenance work on Tinsley Viaduct, which carries the M1 motorway over the A631 and the viaduct’s central service road in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

“Drivers will be diverted via the A631 and slight delays are expected. Once complete, the work should improve journey reliability, by reducing the need for unplanned or emergency repairs and associated lane closures.

Every effort will be made to ensure disruption to traffic and residents is kept to a minimum.”
