POLICE and paramedics were called to deal with a pile-up on the M1 motorway in South Yorkshire which caused tailbacks for hundreds of frustrated travellers.
The emergency services were alerted to the collision near junction 33 at Catcliffe at around 8.30pm yesterday.
It was reported four cars, two vans and a lorry were involved in the smash.
Nobody was seriously hurt but two women were treated at the scene for shock.
The collision caused tailbacks on the road until the vehicles were removed to the hard shoulder. Police said the motorway was running freely again by 9.40pm.
A two-car collision between a Ford Fiesta and a Volvo blocked the B6090 Main Road at Wentworth, Rotherham, yesterday at 6.50am. The road was re-opened at 9.10am.
