Low bid could win you United mascot prize in auction

FORGET bidding big - Blades fans across the city are invited to take part in a charity auction with a twist, where the lowest unique pledge will scoop the dream prize.

A chance to be the first Sheffield United mascot of 2010 is up for grabs in the reverse auction in aid of Neurocare.

The prize will go to the lucky entrant who places the lowest bid not matched by anyone else - potentially netting a 350 prize for just a couple of pounds.

Neurocare - which supports the neurosciences department at the Hallamshire Hospital - benefits because each bid must pay their offer up front.

The lucky United mascot will walk the Blades down the tunnel onto the pitch for their Championship home game of the year against Middlesbrough on January 16.

They will receive five-star treatment during a tour of the stadium, meet the players, and receive a host of goodies including a full home kit, signed photograph and free match tickets.

Lesley Eland, chief executive of Neurocare, said: "There are only 21 mascots a year who get to grace the turf of Bramall Lane, so this is a real chance to win something special.

"We are really grateful Sheffield United has given Neurocare the opportunity to raise some money, while offering a fabulous prize to one lucky child."

The prize is available for a child aged between five and 12. Bidders should send their pledge along with a completed application form to the Neurocare Office, Lydgate House, Lydgate Lane, Crookes, Sheffield, S10 5FH, by 5pm on December 11. Log onto www.neurocare.org.uk for more information and a form, which are also available at the Sheffield United superstore, receptions and ticket office.
