The Steel City should be renamed Lucky City after the National Lottery revealed Sheffield boasts the third highest number of big winners across the UK.
Exclusive statistics reveal Sheffield’s S postcode is one of the luckiest places to live, with the city boasting the third highest number of £50,000- plus winning tickets across the country.
A staggering 668 Sheffielders have won prizes of over £50,000 since the lottery began, including 67 city folk who have become instant millionaires.
Only this week a syndicate of three from Sheffield scooped £77,929 in the Lotto 5 Plus Bonus jackpot draw.
Other winners from Sheffield include Barbara Clack who won £100,000 on Lotto in 2011, and Ray and Barbara Wragg who won £7.6 million on the Lotto in 2000 - and have helped countless charities since.
Barbara Clack said: “It doesn’t surprise me that Sheffield is a lucky place to live. It certainly proved lucky for me. It’s a great place with wonderful people and I’ve no doubt we’re going to continue to see even more winners.”
A Lottery spokesman said: “Sheffield really is a lucky place to live - but lottery luck can live anywhere.”
