The Star stepped in to save the day after a reader found a lost camera and appealed for the rightful owners to come forward.

The Sony Cybershot digital compact camera was found in the car park of The Wyvern pub on Leighton Road, Gleadless Valley.

Inside it was a memory card containing 220 precious holiday snaps, including photographs of holiday trips.

The pub’s landlord handed the camera to regular Star reader Vin Malone, aged 71, from Gleadless Valley, who contacted the paper to publish an appeal.

Hundreds of people then shared the story at www.thestar.co.uk online and helped to track down the owners.

It turns out the camera had been stolen in a burglary in September and its grateful owners – who wish to remain anonymous – did not realise it had been taken.

Mr Malone said: “I thought it was possibly someone’s lprecious holiday photographs and I was worried they would lose memories they couldn’t get back.

“So I got in touch with The Star.

“It’s brilliant the owner has come forward.”

Speaking about the burglary, he added: “It’s really sad when people get burgled.”
