Lorry smash leaves one woman dead and another fighting for life

A YOUNG woman died and another was left fighting for life after a head-on collision with a lorry.

Police said the 18-year-old dead woman, who has not yet been named, was a passenger in a black Renault Clio travelling along Moor Lane, Brierley, when the car ran out of control and into the path of an oncoming lorry.

The Renault driver, a 45-year-old woman, suffered life threatening injuries and was rushed to Barnsley District General Hospital, where she has been detained.

The lorry driver, a 63-year-old man from Bradford, escaped unharmed.

Witnesses to the collision at 8.10am yesterday, or anyone who saw the two vehicles beforehand, should call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020.
