SEBASTIAN Coe has been inducted into the International Association of Athletics Federation’s hall of fame.

The two-time Olympic 1,500 metre gold medallist, who carried the Olympic flame along Arundel Gate in Sheffield last night, became a superstar of the sport in 1979 when he set three world records in 41 days, running 800m and mile records before going into new territory over 1,500m.

There were four more world records in 1981, with his 800m time lasting until 1997 and his 1,000m mark not bettered for more than 18 years.

His also won two silver Olympic medals in the 800m event.
